SHAPED BY PUBLIC LAND
VM. 016
“If you don't own land, you don't get to enjoy it. Currently, I live in the Midwest. I live in Iowa. Where I live all of the land is privatized.
My children were raised in the mountains in northern New Mexico, where we would go and camp on BLM land all the time. My daughter was ten days old the first time she slept in a tent on BLM land.
My whole life has been shaped by my experience in public land, camping and hiking and backpacking. It is how I experience wilderness and appreciate just the vast beauty of our country. The thought of our government officials parsing our land like it belongs to them, like they can just sell it off. It's such an absolute lie, and it keeps people from being able to experience wilderness.
And I just feel sad. And I feel sad for my kids and my grand— my future, hopefully someday I'll be a grandparent, but they might not have the opportunity that I had, or that my children had to experience, especially northern New Mexico and Colorado at its fullest.”
