OUR BEST IDEA

VM. 001

“American fucking public lands, man. The ability to roam in the wild for free. Just for being here. That is our best idea. We can't give that up. We can't lose that. Whatever else we disagree on, that's who we are.

All my best memories with my family, every single best memory I have with my dad, with my brother, with every single family member all happened on public land. I don't know what I would do if it wasn't here. It would— it would be like a piece of me had died. Like a piece of this country. Who we are. We can't give that up. That piece of us, the American public land idea, is the best purely American idea. The ability to stretch your legs and go for a walk in the real wild, right.

The notion that the real wild is always just beyond your back door, and that you have access to it, is just the most American thing I can freaking think of, man. Please, I'm begging you. Whoever's listening, I'm begging you. I'm begging you. Please don't throw that tradition away. Don't throw that legacy away. We have a responsibility to pass it on to the next generation so that they can enjoy it the same way we did. I'm begging you. I'm begging you.”
