WHEN WILL IT STOP?
VM. 006
“When will it stop? Now they want to kill off our food supply. The Porcupine caribou herd, It's our lives. It's our culture. It's our tradition. It's my roots. It has been for centuries. We hunt for our dinner. We can't run to the store at 40-50 below to buy meat. Now the oil company wants to take that away from us by drilling in the Arctic coastal plains in our backyard.
Without our native food, we will surely perish. I speak for all the Gwich’in people in Alaska when I say please help us. We pray for our way of life that we may have no invasion or disturbance on our Alaska land. I worry for my grandchildren as you worry for yours. My grandchildren are losing a part of their culture, a part of their heritage.
The Alaskan coastal plains is a very sacred place. It has been for centuries. This is a disaster in the making. It's a horrible thing to think of such a reckless act. Please help us stop this drilling in our backyard. Stand with us. Fight with us. Be our friend. Be our neighbor. Mahsiʼchoo [thank you].”
